About

The U9–U10 Recreational program at Storm North represents a key evolutionary phase for players across the northern corridor. As athletes transition into the 7v7 format, they are introduced to tactical markers like the build-out line and the offside rule. Within Storm North, we focus on turning these new constraints into opportunities for creativity, helping players navigate a larger field with newfound confidence and structure.

This stage is perfect for families in Thornton, Westminster, Broomfield, and beyond, who seek a balanced approach to youth sports. Instead of the individual "me and my ball" focus of earlier years, we shift the lens toward "us and the game." Players begin to understand their specific roles within a formation, learning how to support the attack and recover on defense as a cohesive, functioning unit.

Our teams represent Storm North within the Storm Interbranch League. This competitive platform allows our athletes to test their progress against teams from across the wider Colorado Storm network, offering a broader perspective of the sport while keeping travel manageable for local families. It is a vital step in building regional pride and a competitive spark as players experience a variety of playing styles.

Led by dedicated volunteer coaches and guided by the Storm professional technical staff, our curriculum emphasizes the transition from basic skills to small-group tactics. We teach our players how to play out from the back and maintain possession under light match pressure. We provide the expert curriculum and the Northern platform; our young Storm North athletes provide the effort and curiosity that fuels our collective growth.

At this level, we measure success by the "lightbulb moments" when the game starts to click. By prioritizing developmental maturity and tactical understanding over match results, we ensure that every player in the North region feels empowered to continue their journey within the Colorado Storm family.

Player Attributes

We focus on helping young players connect individual skills to simple team concepts. Our goal is to build confident learners who understand the basics of team play while keeping their enthusiasm for the sport strong.

Through the Storm North U9–U10 Recreational experience, players develop:

  • Game Awareness: An introduction to positioning, spacing, and the basic structure of 7v7 play — helping the game feel more organized and understandable.

  • Team Connection: An early understanding of how to support teammates, move together, and share the ball with purpose.

  • Confidence with the Ball: Growing comfort in dribbling, passing, and receiving under light pressure as the field and rules expand.

  • Understanding of the Rules: Practical experience with the build-out line and offside rule, building clarity and confidence in match situations.

  • Resilience & Growth: The ability to bounce back from mistakes, stay engaged, and view challenges as part of learning.

  • Excitement for the Journey Ahead: A strong developmental foundation that keeps doors open — whether players continue recreationally, explore advanced levels, or simply enjoy the game for years to come.
