About

The Colorado Storm North U7–U8 Recreational program is a cornerstone of athletic development for young players in the northern corridor. At this vital stage, we transition from individual ball mastery to the collaborative dynamics of team-based soccer. Within Storm North, we focus on bridging the gap between early discovery and tactical execution, providing a high-energy environment where children learn that the "beautiful game" thrives on cooperation. This program is the perfect athletic home for families in Thornton, Westminster, Broomfield and beyond, looking for a community-centered experience with professional standards.

To provide a consistent and convenient path for our families, our league structure is designed to keep competition local and accessible during these formative years:

  • U7 In-House League: For our U7 athletes, the priority is building confidence within the Storm North community. Matches are played In-House at our local northern parks, offering a familiar and supportive environment. This local focus allows players to focus on the 5v5 format (4 field players plus a goalkeeper) while competing against their peers in an atmosphere that emphasizes growth over results.

  • U8 In-House League: In the North region, our U8 players continue to sharpen their skills in an In-House format. By keeping these match days local, we ensure that the step up in competition remains rooted in our northern community. Players represent Storm North on familiar pitches, allowing for a steady developmental progression that maintains the social bonds built during their earliest seasons.

The 5v5 format is the vital framework of our soccer methodology in the North region. The introduction of the Goalkeeper at this level is a landmark developmental milestone, and the small-sided teams ensure that every player remains a constant, active participant in the match. Our curriculum places a high premium on "Spatial Awareness," coaching players to find passing lanes and understand how to move off the ball to support the team.

Choosing Storm North for the U7–U8 years means joining a region that values long-term player pathways and local pride. We provide the professional curriculum and the local league structure; our young North Denver athletes provide the spark and enthusiasm that drive our collective success.

Player Attributes

We focus on turning individual skill into team success. Our goal is to develop "thinking players" who are brave with the ball and supportive of their teammates.

Through the Storm North U7–U8 experience, players develop:

  • Emerging Spatial Awareness: An understanding of how to find open space and spread out, rather than clustering around the ball.

  • Team Confidence: The willingness to pass, support, and celebrate teammates as part of a shared effort.

  • Ball Comfort: Improved coordination using both feet and multiple surfaces of the foot to dribble, receive, and control the ball.

  • Role Exploration: Excitement and curiosity about trying different positions—including the important introduction of Goalkeeper.

  • Positive Competitive Energy: A growing ability to compete with enthusiasm while showing respect for teammates, opponents, and coaches.

  • Love for the Game: A foundation of joy, confidence, and connection that keeps players excited for the seasons ahead.
