The Adventure of a Lifetime: England & Spain
From March 7-15, over 70 CRYSC players, family members, and staff spent a week exploring England and Spain through a soccer lens through the CRYSC International Program. The 39 travelers who visited England and the 33 who took on Spain all experienced an immersion into the culture, coaching, and competition their hosts offered, while enjoying the country’s beautiful architecture, rich history, and unique landscape. These participants came together from across every CRYSC Region, representing Castle Rock, South, Central, North, and Fort Collins – making this a truly unifying “One Club” experience. The heart of the CRYSC International Program is to provide an incredible platform for our players, families, and coaches to explore new places, people, and cultures while becoming better-informed global citizens. This trip to England and Spain allowed our Rapids players to test their independence and grow confident as they navigated different parts of the world in unfamiliar settings. They played against local English and Spanish players, learned new styles of play and coaching methods, and broke down cultural barriers on the pitch (and learned some new banter along the way!) One of the highlights for our England travelers was a competitive match against Cherrybrook FC, where our players rose to the occasion and delivered an impressive win against their Under-12 boys side. This match showcased their technical growth, resilience, and team chemistry, making it a memorable moment of pride for players and coaches. It was a true testament to their hard work and ability to adapt to new teammates, some of whom they only met a couple of weeks before the trip! One traveling player on the England trip shared his tour memories, stating, “It was an amazing experience, and if I could, I would do it all over again. The training with the Everton coaches helped me learn new skills and improve my game. It was a cool experience to go to the Tower of London and Windsor Castle and see all of the Crown Jewels and the historical treasures. It was a competitive environment to play against all the other kids in England, and I loved it.” Meanwhile, our Spain group had a unique and enriching experience during an elite-level training session with the academy staff at RCD Espanyol. Players had the opportunity to learn from top-tier Spanish coaches, immersing themselves in the tactical and technical focus that defines Spanish fútbol. The session pushed them physically and mentally and left them with valuable insights to bring back to their CRYSC teams. Under the guidance of our CRYSC staff in both countries, players challenged themselves to grow as athletes and individuals. A big “thank you” to Joe McNab (Castle Rock), Jess Kamnikar (Fort Collins), Britt Rademacher (South), and Ryan Rademacher (Elite) who represented CRYSC staff and led with incredible humility, joy, and curiosity. From the players, the effort and dedication displayed on the field were inspiring, and the support for one another along the way was a testament to the connections within these groups. The exposure to diverse coaching philosophies and perspectives will undoubtedly supplement the players’ continued development in their CRYSC Regions and Teams. These experiences will serve them well as they return home with fresh insights and renewed motivation. Throughout the trip, our travelers demonstrated remarkable flexibility and resilience—whether handling long travel days, adjusting to different foods, or taking on new challenges with an open mind. They embraced the experience with eagerness and engagement, making the most of every moment. The group also had the chance to explore iconic sites and soak in the culture of both countries, from the rich history of London and Manchester to the vibrant Las Ramblas and Mediterranean flair of Barcelona. Whether touring world-famous stadiums like White Hart Lane (home of Tottenham Hotspur) and the Santiago Bernabéu (home of Real Madrid), visiting historic landmarks like Buckingham Palace and Sagrada Familia, or enjoying local cuisine (would you like paella or fish and chips?), the trip was as enriching off the field as it was on it. Beyond the logistics and adventures, one of the most rewarding aspects of this trip was witnessing the unique bond that formed between Rapids players and families over their week together. When people share significant life experiences, they create a connection that lasts well beyond the trip itself. I am grateful to have been part of this journey with such an incredible group. A traveling parent on the Spain trip summed up their experience by sharing, “The CRYSC International trip to Barcelona and Madrid was the perfect mix of soccer, culture, and connection. The coaches and directors fostered an environment where the boys not only developed their skills but also built incredible camaraderie that grew stronger each day. It was an ideal balance of high-level training, sightseeing, parent time, and independent experiences for the kids—a trip we’ll never forget. Can’t recommend it enough!” We hope that our current and future CRYSC International travelers can all have a similar, positive experience like this one and continue to embody the values of our Club, our International Program, and our membership! Cheers and Adios! Jeff

Reflecting on Costa Rica 2025
Just over a month ago, 17 CRYSC players, family members, and staff spent a week exploring Costa Rica’s soccer training, coaching, and culture while enjoying the country’s incredible natural landscape and history. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our incredible journey and share some final thoughts while the experience is still fresh in our minds! The heart of the CRYSC International Program is to provide an incredible platform for our players, families, and coaches to explore new places, people, and cultures while becoming better-informed global citizens. This trip to Costa Rica gave our Rapids players the opportunity to test their independence and grow in confidence as they navigated a different part of the world in an unfamiliar setting. They trained with and against local Costa Rican players, learning a new style of play, coaching, and breaking down cultural barriers on the pitch. Under the guidance of former Costa Rican National Team player and current Herredia Head Coach, Kenneth Paniagua, players pushed themselves to learn, be challenged, and grow as athletes. The effort and dedication displayed on the field were inspiring, and the support for one another along the way was a testament to the strength of this group. The exposure to new coaching styles and perspectives will undoubtedly supplement the players’ continued development in their CRYSC Regions and Teams. This experience is one that will serve them well as they return home, bringing fresh insights and renewed motivation to their game. Our travelers left a lasting impression on those we met, just as they left a lifelong impact on us. The players had the opportunity to participate in a ”Global Ambassadors” service project, helping facilitate a youth clinic for Cubujuqui Academy’s youngest athletes (U8-U10). Through the interactions we had with them and the experience we had, I’m sure both sides will tell stories about “those Americans” who they played with (and hopefully learned a little something from). This kind of exchange is invaluable, reinforcing the power of sport to bridge cultures and create meaningful connections. Throughout the trip, our travelers demonstrated remarkable flexibility and resilience – whether it was handling flight delays, adjusting to different foods, or taking on new challenges with an open mind. They embraced the experience with eagerness and engagement, making the most of every moment. Our group was also a “good luck charm” when it came to wildlife encounters! While exploring the incredible landscape, including Manuel Antonio National Park and La Paz Waterfall Gardens, they saw macaws, monkeys, crocodiles, snakes, frogs, and yes…SLOTHS! The unique geography of Costa Rica is a feast for the eyes and the senses, and this trip did not disappoint. Beyond the logistics and adventures, one of the most rewarding aspects of this trip was witnessing the unique bond that formed between Rapids players and families.. When people share significant life experiences, they create a connection that lasts well beyond the trip itself. I am grateful to have been part of this journey with such an incredible group. We hope that our current and future CRYSC International travelers can all have a similar, positive experience like this one and continue to embody the values of our Club, our International Program, and our membership! Pura vida!

CRYSC International Opportunities 2024
2024 International Opportunities – Still Open For Registration! Winter and Spring Trip rosters are now finalized, but our CRYSC International Summer Tours are still open for our 2011 and 2005-2007 Competitive Players and Families! Keep reading for more information on these international soccer immersion opportunities. Over 220 CRYSC players, families, and staff will be joining us for our Spring trips, but there is still time for our 2011 and our 2005-2007 age groups to sign up for their international tours this summer! We are also hosting a couple of Zoom “refresher” meetings in the coming weeks for players & parents to learn more about the trip and/or remind them of the details that we discussed in our informational meetings this past Summer. See below for information about those trips and the upcoming Zoom meetings. The 2005-2007 (current 17U-19U) Boys & Girls are headed to Germany & The Netherlands for a 9-day tour, from June 6-14, 2024, filled with competition, cultural immersion, and opportunities for personal growth. Travelers will participate in a trip that will start in Dusseldorf & Cologne, Germany, and then move into Amsterdam, Netherlands, to wrap up the journey. Through their tour, our separate boys & girls team will each play three international friendly matches against local opponents, enjoy a professional clinic hosted by a German or Dutch academy coach, tour historic sites such as the Kölner Dom & Camp Vught, and visit Ajax Stadium in Amsterdam, among other activities. This trip does not include attendance at a pro-match, as all European club teams will be on an international break in preparation for the UEFA European Championships that take place in Germany starting June 14th. Space on this tour is limited to the first 18 Boys & 18 Girls players who register to ensure a quality experience on and off the field. The Germany & Amsterdam “refresher” Zoom meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 5th @ 8:15pm. To register for the meeting and receive the meeting link, please click HERE. Note: If you are interested in the trip but cannot attend the meeting, we encourage you to register so that you can receive the meeting recording and summary afterward. Our 2011 (current 13U) Boys & Girls and their families have the opportunity to travel to Scotland for a 9-day tour, from July 26-August 3, 2024, to gear up for the Fall season in a new environment with top-level Academy coaches and to take in the beauty and history of Scotland. This trip will be focused on individual and small group skill-building and conditioning as our players prepare for the Fall 2024 season. Included in the soccer content of this trip will be at least five professional clinics with guest coaches, 2-3 training sessions facilitated by CRYSC Staff, a tour of Celtic FC stadium, and a professional Scottish soccer match (teams TBD). Additionally, we want players & families to enjoy the unique history and landscape of the country by taking in guided Glasgow and Edinburgh city tours, a visit to Stirling, and a tour of the Scottish Football Museum. Space on this tour is limited to the first 20 Boys & 20 Girls players who register to ensure a quality experience on and off the field. The Scotland “refresher” Zoom meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 5th @ 7:30pm. To register for the meeting and receive the meeting link, please click HERE. Note: If you are interested in the trip but cannot attend the meeting, we encourage you to register so that you can receive the meeting recording and summary afterward. In addition to these club-wide age-group trips, CRYSC International can also facilitate custom team trips that cater to a team’s schedule and interests. This could include an international tournament, a new destination, an international coach’s “hometown” tour, or any other trip that blends both soccer and cultural immersion aspects. There is still time to plan something for Summer or Fall 2024, should you be interested! For more information about all CRYSC International opportunities, please reach out to CRYSC Director of Club and International Partnerships, Jeff Oleck, at jeff.oleck@rapidsyouthsoccer.org. Germany & Netherlands: This trip will take our 2007-2005 boys and girls and families to two European countries, Germany and the Netherlands! Participants will have the chance to explore Dusseldorf & Amsterdam and the surrounding areas, Tour AFC Ajax Stadium, play three international friendly matches, participate in two Club-run training sessions, and have one professional training clinic with a guest coach from a professional Dutch academy! Travelers will also take an Amsterdam Bike tour, visit the Camp Vught National Memorial, take an excursion to Cologne, Germany, and have some free time to explore these incredible cities on their own. Scotland: 2011 players and their families who visit Scotland will participate in a more individual and small group-centered experience, rather than the traditional format of playing friendlies with a full roster. This allows our players to work on their own individual skills under the guidance of top Scottish youth, academy, and professional coaches over the course of 5+ training sessions throughout the week. Travelers will also take in a professional Scottish league match, tour Glasgow Celtic Stadium, and take in the beautiful historic Scottish cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow. London & Manchester (REGISTRATION CLOSED): The 2012 (12U) players and families who travel to England can expect opportunities to explore Manchester, Liverpool, and Royal London, attend a professional match in England with thousands of singing fans, take a tour of St. Georges Park (English FA’s national training center – pending availability), tour Manchester United’s Stadium, play three international friendly matches against local teams, participate in two club-run training sessions, and take part in one professional training clinic with a guest coach from a professional English club academy! Participants will also take a London City tour, visit the Tower of London, spend some free time in London, and enjoy an excursion to Liverpool. Barcelona & Madrid (REGISTRATION CLOSED): Our 2010 (14U) players and families who travel to Spain will have the chance to explore beautiful Barcelona & Madrid, watch a professional game with thousands of dedicated fans, tour the stadium of Real Madrid, train as a group in local facilities, and participate in a clinic led by professional Spanish coaches. Some of the awesome inclusions of this trip include a guided Barcelona & Madrid city tour, a tour around the La Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, Las Ramblas, an excursion to the historic town of Zaragoza, and enjoy some free time on your own to explore these historic cities. Costa Rica (REGISTRATION CLOSED): The 2009 & 2008s can escape the Colorado winter in January 2024 and head to warm & sunny Costa Rica for a week of pre-season training, individual skill development, and off-the-field adventures! This trip will provide individual and small group training opportunities with Costa Rican academies/clubs, CRYSC staff-run sessions, tickets to a pro match, and an opportunity to participate in a service project to interact with local soccer players. In addition to the soccer content, we will explore Costa Rica’s rich natural landscape by taking in volcanos, river rafting, and a jungle cruise. Competitive players in the table below are being offered trips in 2024 – and if your age group isn’t included this year, please keep an eye out for information on how to join a trip in 2025! Mile High Soccer Symposium 2026
The first Mile High Soccer Symposium is officially in the books. Over three days (June 26-28) at Regis University, coaches from across Colorado and beyond came together to learn, connect, and challenge one another alongside some of the most respected minds in the game. While the symposium featured world-class presenters from youth, collegiate, professional, and international soccer, the greatest takeaway wasn't a single presentation—it was the community that was created. Coaches shared meals together. They debated ideas between sessions. They analyzed FIFA World Cup matches. They watched elite coaches bring ideas to life on the field. They built relationships that will continue long after the weekend ended. That was always the vision. The symposium wasn't designed to be another coaching conference. It was designed to become an annual gathering where coaches invest in themselves so they can create better environments for the players they serve. Throughout the weekend, one message continued to emerge: Better coaches create better learning environments. Better learning environments help develop better players while ensuring kids continue to love the game.

Colorado Storm Health & Performance Update
As we get into the swing of summer soccer, many players are eager to jump into camps, tournaments, and other sports. While staying active is important, the off-season is also a critical time for recovery, growth, and injury prevention. Why the Off-Season Matters Young athletes often play soccer year-round, which can increase the risk of overuse injuries such as knee pain, heel pain (Sever's disease), shin splints, and stress injuries. The off-season provides an opportunity for the body to recover, rebuild strength, and prepare for the next season. Three Keys to a Healthy Summer Rest and Recover: Sports medicine experts recommend that youth athletes take breaks from organized soccer throughout the year. A few weeks with reduced soccer-specific activity allows growing bones, muscles, and tendons to recover from repetitive stress. Players don't need to be inactive—swimming, biking, hiking, and recreational play are excellent alternatives that keep kids moving while giving soccer-specific muscles a break. Build Strength and Stability: Summer is the ideal time to improve athleticism. Focus on: Bodyweight squats and lunges Core strengthening exercises Balance training Jumping and landing mechanics Hip and glute strengthening Improved strength helps reduce the risk of ACL injuries and other common soccer-related injuries. Stay Hydrated in Colorado's Climate: Colorado's dry air and higher elevation can increase fluid loss, even when temperatures feel comfortable. Hydration tips: Drink water throughout the day, not just during physical activity. Begin activities well-hydrated. Take regular water breaks during outdoor play. Watch for signs of dehydration, including headache, dizziness, fatigue, or muscle cramps. Watch for Growth Spurts Summer is a common time for rapid growth in young athletes. Parents should monitor for: Persistent heel pain Knee pain below the kneecap Increased muscle tightness Changes in coordination These can be normal during growth spurts, but should be evaluated if symptoms persist or interfere with activity. Summer Challenge Players can improve their soccer performance by aiming for: 60 minutes of physical activity daily 8–10 hours of sleep each night Strength training 2–3 times per week At least one full rest day each week A balanced summer helps athletes return healthier, stronger, and more prepared for the fall season. Remember: The best players aren't always the ones who train the most—they're often the ones who recover the best. Have a safe, active, and healthy Colorado summer!
