Adaptive Program

About Adaptive Soccer

Soccer for Every Body. Every Ability. Every Heart.

Colorado Storm’s Adaptive Soccer Program is a community-based training environment for young athletes with disabilities. We truly believe everyone belongs on the field. This supportive program is thoughtfully tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals in the U5–U19 age groups with intellectual, emotional, or physical disabilities.

Serving families across our Castle Rock, South, Central, and North regions, we ensure our Adaptive Program reflects national best practices. Our priority is creating a safe, fun, and empowering space where every child can grow, learn, and thrive through the game of soccer.

Who Is Adaptive Soccer For?

Colorado Storm’s Adaptive Soccer Program is designed with care for players in the 5U–U19 age groups who have intellectual, emotional, or physical disabilities. Whether your child is stepping onto the grass for the very first time or simply looking for a fun way to stay active, there is a place for them here. We have built a welcoming environment where every player can find their rhythm and build steady momentum at their own pace.

The Experience: Joy, Connection, and Support

When you join the Storm family, you step into an environment of encouragement and support. We prioritize smiles over scores. Here's what Adaptive families can expect:

  • Warm Atmosphere: Sessions are low-pressure and high-energy.

  • Tailored Coaching: Our staff adapts drills and games to meet each player's unique needs.

  • The Buddy System: Every athlete is paired with a dedicated "Buddy" to provide one-on-one encouragement and friendship.

Our goal is simple: Create a spark of confidence in every player who steps on the field.

Buddy Volunteers

The Colorado Storm Adaptive Soccer Program is powered by the incredible hearts of our volunteer “Buddies.” These compassionate volunteers, ages 13 and older, are paired one-on-one with our adaptive athletes. They are there to support, encourage, and help each player succeed at their own perfect pace.

Buddies are absolutely essential to making sure everyone belongs on the field. They bring waves of positive energy to every practice, ensuring every child feels safe, celebrated, and ready to play.

What Does a Buddy Do?

Being a Buddy is about friendship first and soccer second. Buddies guide players through simple activities, offer endless high-fives, and provide a familiar, supportive face each week.

  • Who can volunteer? Middle and high school students, siblings, adult community members, and local student-athletes ages 13 and up. All buddies must complete a background check and Safesport training.

  • What is the commitment? Buddies can join us for any of our seasonal programs—Fall, Winter, Spring, or Summer.

  • Do I need soccer experience? Not at all! A kind heart, patience, and a willingness to be a supportive friend are the only requirements.

  • What are the benefits? Beyond sharing the joy of the game, Buddies create meaningful, one-on-one relationships. They also gain valuable leadership skills and earn community service hours.

When volunteers step onto the field with the Storm, they are doing much more than assisting with drills. They are building confidence and changing lives. All Buddy Volunteers must sign up via the club’s official registration system to ensure a safe, secure, and organized environment for all our families.
