Referee Overview

Colorado Storm offers multiple options for those interested in becoming a referee.  From the Storm Recreational Game Coordinator Program to the U.S. Soccer Certifications offered by the Colorado Referee Program you have options.  Join the referee program and move up the ladder.  Refereeing is a great job, Colorado Storm offers a wonderful program to get you started at the appropriate level of competition and advance in the program.  Who knows, we could have a future FIFA referee out there!

Recreational Game Coordinator Program 

This is an introductory program and serves as a stepping stone for those interested in becoming full-time referees.  Anyone over the age of 11 is allowed to become a Recreational Game Coordinator.

USSF Referee Program 

This is a program for those interested in being a fully-certified referee.  The age requirement is 12 years of age and a series of certification classes.  For more information please see the information below.

U.S. Soccer Referee Program

Colorado offers two certification courses to become certified as a U.S. Soccer Referee.  

U.S. Soccer Recreational Referee (Grade 9) - The purpose of the U.S. Soccer Grade 9 Recreational Referee Course is to prepare officials for the recreational and small-sided youth game.  Based on the level of training provided, U.S. Soccer recommends that these officials be assigned accordingly to best serve the game.  In Colorado the Recreational Referee Course consists of on-line course modules and the recreational referee test. Future referees must complete the on-line modules and pass the test in order to successfully pass the course and be registered with U.S. Soccer.  Certification for age 12 and older.

Based on the level of training provided, U.S. Soccer recommends that these officials be assigned accordingly to best serve the game.  In Colorado the Referee Course consists of three parts: online, field session, and classroom.  Future referees must complete all three sections in order to successfully pass the course and be registered with U.S. Soccer. Certification for age 14 and older.
