Storm South Soccer Tryouts

The Colorado Storm Competitive program is always looking for ways of improving its player identification and developmentally appropriate player placement.  To this end, we firmly believe the body of work is a greater indication of a player's current level than any given moment.  With this in mind, the Colorado Storm would like to clearly communicate its new placement procedures and expectations for the 2017-18 teams being formed this summer.

Why is this so important?
We want ALL Storm player and parents to know all the important dates and deadlines ahead of time.

It should be noted that all our new U11 teams (2007's) will still be following a formal open tryout process as this is the best way to establish proper player placement for the first year in our highly successful competitive program.

Important Dates FOR RETURNING COMPETITIVE PLAYERS:
  • MAY 15th -- Deadline for current U11-U14 players to receive written evaluations from their coach.
  • MAY 22nd -- Deadline for coaches meeting to finalize the Fall 2017 rosters for players currently on a Storm team.
  • MAY 23rd -- Deadline for players to receive an email or phone call regarding their offered placement for the Fall 2017 team.  An invitation email with specific instructions for accepting the spot will go out to the primary email address.
  • MAY 30th, 12:00 Noon -- Deadline for players to accept their position on the team.  Following the instructions of the player placement email on May 23rd, each player will accept their spot by contacting the coach, registering and paying the 1st payment towards the Fall 2017 fees.
    • After May 30th, if a player has not secured their spot per the above instructions, the roster position is no longer guaranteed and can be offered to players from both inside and outside of the club.
    • If you plan on trying out outside of the club, we highly recommend that you notify your current coach and Director PRIOR to the deadline so that the expectations and communication plan can be clearly established.

Important Dates '07 players and for players New to Storm:

  • May 30th - June 1st -- Tryouts for the club (U11-14 Boys, and U11-U18 Girls) will take place.  In order to evaluate the new players to the club, we will ask our Premier teams to attend the tryout.  The Premier team players WILL NOT be evaluated at this time, they are only there to help us accurately evaluate the players who are new to the club.
  • Week of June 5th -- Team meetings will begin (specific day/time/location for each team TBD).  The team meeting will be used to introduce the new players and communicate the team plan and expectations for the year.

High School Boys (2003-1999)

ECNL Boys

In our quest to provide the highest level of competition and exposure to college programs for our U15-U19 boys the Colorado Storm is pleased to announce its acceptance into the newly formed ECNL Boys League.  This is an exciting opportunity for our highest level teams to compete Regionally and Nationally in front of hundreds of college coaches and National scouts.  The Storm is one of 7 teams in the Texas Division and we expect teams in this league to have 3-4 out of State trips during the season which begins in January of 2018.  All ECNL players will be allowed to play for their high school teams.

ECNL tryouts are June 3rd and 4th and by invitation only.  After ECNL tryouts each player will be offered a spot on the ECNL team or a Storm CSA team.

For more ECNL League information -- http://www.boysecnl.com/

U15-18 CSA Teams

All Storm players not invited to ECNL tryouts need to attend the U15-19 Boys Open Tryouts on June 7th and 8th.  These tryouts are open to ANY 2003-1999 age player and ALL U15-19 CSA teams (Academy, Select, Premiere, Elite, etc.) will be formed during these two days, including the 8th grade 2003 team (discussed below).  All players who plan on joining a Storm team should attend these two days of tryouts.  If a player is unable to attend but wants to be considered for a Spring team, please notify your current coach or Jeff Rogers (High School Boys DOC); he will be included on the placement list based on the "body of work" approach.  Additional tryouts will occur in late October/early November, but players who accept roster spots in June will have a guaranteed spot.

2003 "8th Grade" Fall Team

Due to the USYSA mandated change to the 'birth year" team formation, this creates a Fall season void for the 2003 players who are not yet in high school.  Again, this is not a Colorado Storm initiative and affects EVERY club and association in the country.  2003 8th grade players will attend the open tryout discussed above like every other player.  They will be placed on a "Spring" team (ECNL, Academy, Select, etc.).  We will then examine the pool of 8th grade players and create as many teams as possible based on the overall number of players and talent level.  It is our hope to have at least two 8th grade teams for a better distribution of talent, but again, it is contingent on the overall available pool.  The team(s) will play in CSA (or other league such as Far West Regional League) depending on the assessed level.  This will be a "Fall only" situation and the players will join their respective "Spring" teams that they were selected to in June, after the winter break.

Important Dates (High School Boys)
