4th Annual College Night Recap

By Amy Snider - February 12, 2018

The 4th Annual Colorado Storm College Recruiting Night was a great success, and we thank everyone who took the time to learn more about the recruiting process.  We had over 200 Storm members, representing all four Colorado Storm regions, in attendance!

The night began with recognition of the Storm Class of 2018 as we celebrated their college commitments and provided an example to the younger, college-bound athletes in the audience that there is a college fit for all our Storm players.  With over 60 players graduating from Storm to their respective college programs, we were proud to applaud their accomplishments and wish them luck in their future endeavors!

Following the Class of 2018 recognition, Dr. Rachel Frank was introduced as the evening's honored guest to give the opening remarks.  Dr. Frank is the co-medical director for Colorado Storm through UCHealth and the University of Colorado Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.  She spoke of her experience as a NCAA Division I goalkeeper at the University of Illinois and shared the significant impact that collegiate athletics played in her personal and professional growth.

Once Dr. Frank finished her opening remarks, CAP Director Jeff Oleck took the participants through an interactive presentation about the "Do's and Don'ts of the College Recruiting Process".  This provided direction to the student-athletes, the parents, and also discussed the role that Colorado Storm plays in the recruiting process.  For a copy of the presentation, please visit the College Advisory Program (CAP) page on the Storm website to download a PDF version.

To conclude the evening, a panel of seven NCAA coaches participated in a Q&A with the audience, moderated by CAP Director Dave Kunitz.  Parents, players, and coaches were able to interact with these industry professionals and get their thoughts on specific elements of the recruiting process.  The guidance that these coaches provided to Storm players was invaluable and we greatly appreciate their participation.

Representing all three NCAA divisions, we were pleased to feature the following college coaches:

Kris Peat - University of Denver - NCAA DI
Hank Lewis - US Air Force Academy - NCAA DI
Sian Hudson - University of Colorado, Colorado Springs - NCAA DII
Greg Mulholland - Colorado School of Mines - NCAA DII
Tracy Chao - Metropolitan State University - NCAA DII
Andy Kohel - Johnson & Wales University - NCAA DIII
Amanda Davis - Johnson & Wales University - NCAA DIII

We thank all those who attended and are proud of the proactive steps you are taking in your own college search.  If you have any questions about what was discussed at the College Recruiting Night, please reach out to your regional CAP advisor.

College Recruiting Night

Feb 8th at South High School

Amy Snider

Save the Date!  The 4th Annual Colorado Storm College Recruiting Night will be held on Thursday, February 8th at Denver South High School.  The presentation will begin at 7pm.

This annual gathering of Colorado Storm prospects, parents, and coaches will provide an in-depth look at the college recruiting process and how to best position oneself to be seen by college recruiters.  The format for the evening will include: a brief recognition of Storm's 2018 college commits, "Do's and Don'ts of the College Recruiting Process" presentation, discussion to help college-bound players understand the recruiting timeline, and open Q&A with a panel of current NCAA & NAIA coaches.

This event is free and open to any/all Storm players from any region.  It is strongly encouraged that 2004 and older players attend, as the recruiting process actively involves those age groups.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email your regional College Advisory Program (CAP) Director.  More information on Storm's CAP program can be found here: http://coloradostorm.com/Colorado-Storm-College-Advisory-Program

For an updated list of college coaches who will be attending, please follow @coloradostorm_gk on Instagram.
